Siena Ristorante Toscana
NCJW Austin hosts its next luncheon on Tuesday, February 3rd at Siena Restaurant, 6203 North Capital of Texas highway, from 11:15am to 1:00pm (networking time, 11:15-11:45am; program starts at 11:45am).
Our guest speaker will be Janet Walkow, Ph.D, Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer, Drug Dynamics Institute – University of Texas. The title of her presentation is “Empowering Today’s Women”.
Empowering women means many things: it can be helping someone close to you with a problem, mentoring a colleague or someone you mentor, or assisting those in your community and beyond. Reaching out to those in need is central to Tikkun Olan and Jewish values. Women’s groups and collective action play a pivotal role in building momentum and meaningful advances.
Women and girls worldwide face a myriad of issues, ranging from gender-biased actions, laws, and norms that impact them in all aspects of their lives. Working with women both locally and around the world highlights the challenges to and possibilities for empowering women. Expanding these opportunities and amplifying the voices of women can influence gender equality and result in meaningful dividends for men and boys, families, and communities.
We all have the power to help other women, no matter how big or small the effort. Every action makes a difference.
Dr. Janet Walkow joined the faculty of the University of Texas in 2008, building on a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. Janet is also a co-founder of the Leading Women Project, designed to help women of all ages and professions learn to lead – both themselves and others. She also works with a variety of local and global organizations and continually seeks opportunities that support and empower people around the world.
The cost is $20 for NCJW members and $22 for non-members, all inclusive (cash only please). Newcomers are always welcome. Please RSVP by February 1st to firstname.lastname@example.org.
